Job Description:
Summary:
Under general supervision of
the Director of Nursing Resource Management directs and evaluates
nursing care
and related activities of assigned nursing units on the off-shifts.
- Serves as the administrative resource person
within the hospital for interpretation and implementation of
policies and
procedures for all departments as required. -

with patients customers and one another. -Plans and directs
activities
with the Clinical Manager Assistant Clinical Manager and/or Charge
Nurse to
provide optimal nursing care on assigned nursing units. - Responds
to administrative problems defines
and resolves problems as they arise
or request assistance as required. -Plans and directs patient
flow and patient placement to provide optimal patient care services
through the
institution. Works collaboratively with all departments and
Lifespan
affiliates. Responds to patient flow problems on units and in
individual points
of entry resolving issues as they arrive. The nursing supervisor
maintains a global
perspective of hospital operations. -In collaboration with
unit/department leadership and/or charge RNs adjusts shift staffing
in
accordance with the ANA staffing standards to ensure adequate
patient care on
assigned units and subsequent shift. -Makes rounds to evaluate
nursing care and ensure maximum utilization of personnel. -
Monitors cost-effectiveness by assessing
adequacy of staffing and reporting variances in the staffing
complement. - Initiates corrective measures as indicated. -Provides
guidance and
education to staff on patient care delivery as needed; provides
leadership coaching
and feedback to Charge RNs. -Responds appropriately to assess
and evaluate internal and external customer needs. -Ensures
conformance with
established policies and procedures -Conducts Charge RN
Leadership
huddles for providing frontline leaders with current hospital
capacity patient
needs and staffing resource information. -Responds to Code Blue
Rapid
Response Team and similar hospital emergencies. -
Conducts audits for universal protocol procedures in the
medical-surgical areas as needed. -Acts as Incident Commander
during Code Triage until relief is provided. -Completes occurrence
reports as
required. - Initiates follow-up or
corrective interventions as indicated. -Consults with the Clinical
Manager
or Charge Nurse regarding unit routines or problems. -Prepares and
submits reports
as required. - Submits suggestions for
improvement of administrative operation of nursing units to the
nursing
administrative staff. -Participates on various
nursing or hospital committees/nursing councils as assigned.
-Directs and/or participates
in studies analyses and other forms of research. -Acts as a liaison
with
Nursing Administration and department managers on various nursing
matters. -Maintains quality assurance
safety environmental and infection control in accordance with
established
hospital department policies procedures and objectives. - -
Performs other related duties
as required. -Other information:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the
Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in
accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the
National Council of State Boards of
Nursing.QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
from an accredited college or university with current license to
practice
professional nursing in the State of Rhode Island.ACLS and BLS
certification.
Conformance to the Code of
Professional Nurses. Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse
Practice Act
of the State of Rhode Island required.
Maintains a current knowledge
of contemporary professional nursing practice within the legal
framework of the
Nurse Practice Act.
Current BLS ACLS and NIH
Stroke certification is required.
Current certification in
related specialty or certification within two years.
QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:
Three years of progressively
responsible clinical experience with one year as Charge Nurse
and/or Assistant Clinical
Manager level preferred.
INDEPENDENT
ACTION:
Performs independently
within department and hospital policies and procedures referring
unusual
problems to Director.
SUPERVISION:
Direct supervision of nursing personnel on the
off-shift. Responsible for immediate
counseling and corrective actions on the off-shift. -Lifespan is an
