services to people facing the challenges associated with
developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use
disorders, and homelessness at more than 175 program sites
throughout Greater Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts.
Job Summary:
The Clinician is responsible for assessing, planning services, and
engaging in mental health and substance abuse interventions for 20
guests of a DMH dual-diagnosis shelter as well as providing
training and oversight to direct care staff in regards to the
provision of effective and meaningful interventions and services.
This position supports Bay Cove's mission by ensuring that services
and interventions offered to guests at the Dual Diagnosis Shelter
are commensurate with their ability to participate in these
services and interventions and by ensuring that all services are
strengths-based, person-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally
and linguistically competent.
This is an exempt position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
One Housing Specialist and as assigned by the Shelter Director.
Essential Functions of Position:
- Collaborate with the Shelter Director to review referrals,
summarize risk history, create risk response plans, and communicate
risk history and plans with Dual Diagnosis Shelter staff.
- Conduct and document an intake assessment of all new guests
within 14 days of admission that includes assessment of personal
strengths and resources, risk to self or others, substance
use/abuse, medial risk factors, response to psychopharmacologic
interventions, ability to self-administer medication, cultural and
ethnic factors, need for financial and/or legal assistance, and
community resources available, including but not limited to health
care, benefits and entitlements, housing, and employment.
- Complete an Individualized Action Plan in partnership with the
guest within 7 days of the completion of the assessment.
- Provide case management and case coordination in collaboration
with outside providers such as Forensic Treatment Team, DMH Case
Managers, ACCS workers, forensic liaison, etc., via email and
through scheduled on and off-site meetings.
- Assist shelter guests in efforts to secure needed treatment,
rehab, and housing supports as part of the ACCS and DMH network of
services.
- Ensure completion of notes documenting services carried out
including 1) guest's progress towards identified goals, 2) the
purpose and outcome of any collateral contact, and 3) activities
performed by staff on behalf of the client and the result of said
activity.
- Conduct and document staff interventions with each guest as
outlined in their IAP.
- Provide training and expertise to direct care staff regarding
therapeutic skills and interventions, as well as clinical
documentation skills, in the form of individual and group training
as needed.
- Provide crisis assessment, prevention, and needed intervention
during the business day and while on-call on nights and weekends as
scheduled.
- Provide on-call coverage on a rotating basis.
- Complete other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements for the position:
- A Bachelor's Degree is required
- Valid LICSW, LCSW, LMHC, or other behavioral health category
which qualifies as a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts is
preferred. Experience working with individuals with MH and/or
Addictions can be substituted.
- Two years direct care experience providing services to
individuals who are chronically homeless and experience substance
abuse issues and/or mental health issues preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in conducting and documenting
assessments and devising service plans.
- Professional written and oral communications skills.
- Proficiency in word processing and other computer functions
using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps.
- Ability to climb stairs and carry up to 40 pounds, as well as
the physical capacity to assist people with mobility impairments as
needed.
