Job Description The Water Treatment Operator will perform maintenance work and ensure the workings of the mechanical and electrical equipment necessary for the treatment of wastewater and the disposal of sludge. More specifically, the job expectations will include the following: -- Under general supervision, has shift responsibility and supervises subordinates. -- Subject to 2nd or 3rd shift work, weekend work and overtime. -- Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent. -- Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels. -- Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and test results to determine processing requirements. -- Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control; starts and stops pumps, engines and generator to control and adjust flow and treatment processes. -- Maintains shift logs and records meter and gauge readings. -- Extracts samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses. -- Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties. -- Repairs and installs equipment. -- Makes operating decisions within established guidelines.
